Direct Costs
Direct costs are items directly related to studies such as tuition, program fees, and general service fees.

Tuition calculations are based on a per-credit rate of $1,700.
Costs are based on 2024–2025 rates and do not factor potential increases.
Indirect Costs
Indirect costs are included in the student's financial aid budget. These are not direct charges from the university, but allowances that are given to cover expenses that the student may have while attending school for months the student is enrolled each year of the program. Students are encouraged to carefully review their budgeted amounts and plan wisely to ensure all expenses are adequately covered.

Indirect allowances are based on the following amounts per month, for the months enrolled:
- Living Expenses: $1,950/month (housing, food, utilities)
- Transportation: $400/month
- Personal/Miscellaneous: $350/month
- Clinical Rotation expenses: $250/month
Books, Supplies, and Equipment/Instruments
Doctor of Nursing Practice students may be required to purchase books and equipment/instruments for the program. An amount of $900 is budgeted for the first year of the program and $450 for subsequent years. Actual expenses may vary.
Fees
Students are responsible for certain program-related fees incurred throughout the program. Program administration attempt to be as transparent as possible regarding these fees but changes may arise. At the current time, the following fees with approximate amounts are to be paid out of student pocket to maintain good standing in the program:
- Books: See Books, Supplies, and Equipment/Instruments above
- Castlebranch (formerly Certified Background): Documentation is $171 at start of program. For immunizations, physical exams, CV, licenses, etc cost is $200 (up to 2 times in program during clinical)
- Precordial/esophageal earpiece: $85 (end of second semester)
- National Certification Exam fee (at end of program): $995
- Cost of RN license if rotating to a state not associated with Maine (compact state designated by the state boards of nursing): could be anywhere from $100–$500 because fingerprinting in some states is expensive
- Self Evaluation Exam: $250 paid by program for first time; students will pay for all subsequent exams.
- Outside face-to-face review course: Valley is approximately $900. Other course fees may vary.
The D.N.P. program also has fees that are included as part of tuition and fees every semester. At the current time, the following fees with approximate amounts are paid by the program:
- AANA Associate Member Fee (start of program): $200
- Lab supplies (throughout the program): $1,500
- BLS/ACLS/PALS Recertification course (at end of second semester): $250
- Name badges (at end of second semester): $10
- Lab coats (at end of second semester): $25
- Medatrax case tracking fee (during clinical): $525
- APEX review course: $395

Health Insurance
Students are required to enroll in UNE's Student Medical Insurance Plan unless proof of comparable insurance is demonstrated and waiver is completed online.

The cost for UNE's 2024–2025 annual health insurance policy for graduate/professional students (except first-year College of Osteopathic Medicine students) is $5,264 for the 9/01/2024–8/31/2025 coverage period. Due to a longer academic year, the health insurance rate for first-year College of Osteopathic Medicine students is $6,141 for coverage beginning on 7/1/2024–8/31/2024.
New students whose program (M.A.T., PA, M.S.O.T.) begins in Summer 2024 are charged $1,257 for the summer coverage period of 05/22/2024–8/31/2024, and then the annual coverage rate of $5,264 (with the fall tuition billing) for coverage from 9/1/2024–8/31/2025. Students enrolled in the PSM in Ocean Food Systems Program are charged $1,257 for the summer coverage period of 5/20/2024–8/31/2025, and then the annual coverage rate of $5,264 for coverage from 9/1/2024–8/31/2025. New students should waive/enroll for the summer semester (beginning in April) and then re-enroll/waive for the following academic year, starting on July 1.
